Cutters outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz, 18, has been named the UPMC Susquehanna Player of the Week for the week of July 3 – July 9.
For the week, Ortiz played in all seven of the Crosscutters games and hit .423 (11-for-26) with eight runs scored, three doubles and a home run, reaching a total of 17 total bases for the week. On the season, Ortiz ranks third in the New York-Penn League in RBI (12) and fourth in on-base percentage (.451).
Ortiz was ranked as the number-one international prospect by MLB.com in 2015 when the Phillies signed him as an amateur free agent. Ortiz didn’t play professionally until last season when he hit .231 in 47 games in the Gulf Coast League, with eight home runs and 27 RBI.
The award will be presented prior to the Williamsport Crosscutters game on July 14.
