The Eastern League announced four additions to the league’s All-Star roster, including two members of the Reading Fightin Phils.
Third baseman Mitch Walding, who was recently named Eastern League Player of the Month for June, was added to the Eastern Division squad. Coming into play tonight, Walding leads the Eastern League with 20 home runs, 13 of which came during the month of June. In addition to playing in the game, Walding will be participating in the Home Run Derby to be held Tuesday July 11th, the day before the Eastern League All-Star Game.
Joining Walding as a late addition is Reading reliever Yacksel Rios, who had held opposing hitters to a league-best .165 average and also holds the best WHIP in the league at 0.81 through 37 innings of work. Rios has struck out 46 batters and has a season ERA of 1.95 for the Fightins.
Trenton outfielder Zack Zehner and left-hander Nestor Cortes have also been added to the Eastern Division roster. The additions were made when Binghamton’s P.J. Conlon and Kevin Taylor and Trenton’s Mike Ford and Justus Sheffield were not available to participate in the contest.
This year’s game is being played at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire, home of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
