The Lakewood BlueClaws are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak, thanks in part to pitcher Nick Fanti and first baseman Darick Hall. The Phillies spotlighted the two prospects for their weekly Pitcher and Player of the Week minor league honors.
Fanti, who came within one out of a no-hitter on Saturday in Columbia, was also named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 7th. Fanti, 20, exited Saturday’s game with two outs and runners at first and second in the top of the ninth. Trevor Bettencourt came on to strike out Michael Paez to complete the fifth no-hitter in BlueClaws history. In the game, Fanti gave up no hits and three walks, while striking out nine Columbia Fireflies.
The southpaw is 2-0 with a 1.48 ERA over his first five starts of the season, and is the first BlueClaw to win South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week in 2017. Last year, Luke Leftwich, Jose Taveras, and Alberto Tirado were all named SAL Pitcher of the Week winners over the course of the season.
Hall, 21, hit .304 (7-for-23) with a double, triple four home runs and eight RBI and nine runs scored to post a .957 slugging percentage during the week of May 1-7. During the week, Hall had at least one hit, one run scored and one RBI in five of the six games that he played, and has homered in four of his last five games. In his last 12 games, Hall has seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI.
The Phillies drafted Fanti in the 31st round of the 2015 Draft and selected Hall with their 14th round pick in last June’s Draft.
