HOW HE BECAME A PHILLIE: Signed as a free agent (one-year,$7.5-million) on December 6, 2016. 

2016 NOTES: Started the season with the Seattle Mariners after being dealt to Seattle from San Diego during the offseason… Posted a 5.18 ERA in 26 relief appearances with the Mariners… Traded to Toronto for Drew Storen and cash on July 26 and went 2-0 with a 0.38 ERA for the Blue Jays… Filed for free agency following the season.

CAREER NOTES: Has a career mark of 57-43, 3.79 ERA coming into the 2017 season… Has pitched in 712 MLB games, with 657 relief appearances and 55 starts… His last start came in 2005 with Texas… Has pitched for Texas, Detroit, San Diego, Seattle and Toronto in the majors… Made his MLB debut with the Rangers on August 8, 2001 (ND 5 IP, 8 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 6 ER)… Was initially signed by Texas as an amateur free agent in 1996.
